Tetapi, Roger Bannister mencabar dan memecahkan fikiran mustahil tersebut dengan berlari sejauh 1 batu dalam masa 3 minit 59 saat.
Apa yang terjadi selepas itu?
Pada tahun yang sama, beberapa pelari lain berjaya melepasi benteng 1 batu dalam masa kurang dari 4 minit.
Tahun - tahun yang seterusnya juga menyaksikan lebih ramai pelari berjaya memecahkan benteng 4 minit tersebut.
Apa yang telah terjadi?
Kisah Roger Bannister ini sering diceritakan dalam buku - buku motivasi barat. Ia menunjukkan bahawa benteng pertama yang perlu dilalui adalah benteng di minda.
Apabila ia kelihatan mustahil, maka, ia sememangnya mustahil.
Tetapi, sekiranya ia terbukti boleh dilakukan, maka, benteng di minda sudah tiada lagi dan lebih ramai atlit dapat melakukan larian tersebut.
